Join Connie Martin as she shares the stories, passed down through generations, of how her family survived the Anti-bellum period. Learn how they used quilts containing hidden codes and secret messages to assist abolitionists, white and black, to guide slaves to freedom through the Underground Railroad to Canada. During this presentation, Martin will share eighteen different patterns in replica quilts and refer to the book "Lizzie's Story: A Slave Family's Journey to Freedom," which was written by her mother, Dr. Clarice Boswell.
This program will be presented in person at the 95th Street Library and live streamed via Zoom. Registration is only required if you wish to join virtually via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent automatically once registration has been completed.
